Farm Internship

Harvest Moon Farm is looking for 4-5 farm interns for the 2010 growing season. We are a certified organic, diversified produce farm that also coordinates a Producers Guild comprised of local Amish farms in our area. Interns will have the opportunity to learn all aspects involved with operating a produce farm. Duties will include being involved in all aspects of the growing process. Greenhouse work, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting, and packing.  Interns will also be involved in the processing and packing of restaurant and retail orders, CSA management and packing, and transportation. We don’t have living accommodations on the farm but interns do receive weekly supplies of organic produce and a monthly stipend of $750.00.  Work weeks are typically 40 hours but can be longer during peak harvesting weeks. We strive to provide a consistent schedule but are dependent on weather so we will only hire interns who can be somewhat flexible with their schedules.  Applicants must be available to perform a variety of tasks and willing to work in sub par weather conditions. Our farm is located in Viroqua, Wisconsin; nationally recognized as one of the most forward thinking and progressive agricultural areas in the world. We are willing to assist non-local applicants locate suitable housing in the area. (Dates TBA early spring – late fall). Interested applicants should send a completed application and a resume. 


Film/Video Internship

Harvest Moon Farm is looking for a film/video intern(s) for the 2010 growing season. We provide our Chicago area customers with weekly “Farmcasts” which consist of a short 5-10 minute video of farm footage to establish a connection for our urban customers to their farm and farmers. The film/video intern would be responsible for weekly visits to the farm to capture a range of farm related activities such as planting, harvesting, and processing and all facets of culinary projects. Additional tasks can include, but are not limited to, pre production planning, on site camera work, lighting, sound engineering, and post production/editing. A high definition camera and sound kit will be available for use during most the weekly farm visits.  Work weeks will begin in May through October. This is part time position and hours are to be determined. Intern must have reliable transportation, and access to Final Cut Pro is preferred. There will be a stipend (TBD) for expenses. Position is part-time 20-30 hours depending on projects assigned.

 

Geology/Environmental Studies Internship

Harvest Moon Farm is looking for a Geology/Environmental Studies intern for the 2010 growing season. We have a 20-acre Certified Organic Farm with multiple site conditions that we would like to have evaluated. Site conditions include but not limited to forest, flat tillable land, karst topography, ridge, river, natural springs and wetland environments. We would like to create a management plan for waterways, crop rotation schedule, soil fertility management, native prairie restoration, and pollinator habitat. Our goal is to get a complete overview of conditions and to develop and integrate this information into farming practices and to have records of land use and conditions for our farm history. This is part time position and hours are to be determined. Intern must have reliable transportation. There will be a stipend (TBD) for expenses. Position is part-time 20-30 hours depending on projects assigned.
